Community

A child should be socialized in a language so that the language becomes or remains hers. Until school age, a bilingual child quickly loses her native tongue if it is not the majority language of the environment. The child will master and internalize her culture if she regularly spends time in a place where practice of the language and culture is natural. Finding other children to play with in a common language is another step towards cultivation.

A French-Francophile community

efgb organizes events outside of class where children, parents and teachers have the opportunity to get to know each other better and to create a French and Francophile community.

As far as is possible, depending upon authorization from the management of our classroom facilities, we will organize hors-d'oeuvres, a picnic, or a barbecue for parents, teachers and children -- where the children may present their work in a show or an exhibition.

In addition, these social gatherings allow the members of the Francophone community to form friendships -- between adults as well as between children.

efgb would like to be the gathering point for families sharing the same educational and cultural goals. If you would like to start an initiative or find out more information on a program or the progress of an ongoing project, contact efgb or sign up for our email list under Parents.
